Dos and Don'ts When Using Power Boards
Power Board
A power board is a circuit board that turns a single electrical outlet, which only can fit one or two plugs, into a multiple socket outlet. This can be useful, especially when you have many devices that need to be powered at once. However, it’s important to be aware of the dos and don’ts when using power boards for your own safety.
Don’t Overload the Board
A common mistake people make is to overload a power board by plugging in too many appliances into the same socket. This can lead to severe damage to the electronics if the power board overheats.
Overload Protection
Most power boards will have overload protection that will prevent you from overloading the board with too much electricity. This is important for your safety and that of your family and co-workers.
Don’t Plug In Too Many Appliances
If you have a few high wattage appliances such as TVs, toasters, hairdryers and curling irons you need to be extra careful that they are not plugged into the same power board. This can cause the power board to overheat and can even start a fire!
Don’t Place Your Power Board Where It Can Get Wet
Unlike other parts of your home, your power board can’t survive without water. You must keep it away from any place where water can build up, such as under rugs or in the cupboards.
You should also regularly check your power board for signs of damage or if it is missing any plugs. This can avert injuries, appliance damage and fires in the future.
